Halloween Special - Recipe - Haunting Halloween Apples

Haunting Halloween Apples

These variations on the classic Halloween candied apple make a perfect treat for children to enjoy and prepare themselves.

What you need:

• 8 firm, crisp apples
• 150 g of dark chocolate or caramel candy
• sugar sprinkles, smarties, small sweets, cocoa powder, candied peel, chopped almonds or hazelnuts etc...
• 8 wooden lolly sticks

How to make it:

Melt the chocolate or the caramel candy in a bowl over boiling water or in the microwave. While the coating is melting, wash the apples thoroughly, remove the stalks and push a wooden stick into each one.
Lay out a sheet of baking parchment over your work surface and arrange your decorations in separate little plates, ready to use.
When the chocolate has completely melted, remove if from the heat and transfer it to your work surface. Dip each apple into the warm, melted chocolate then roll it around on your chosen plate of sprinkles or decorations, then finish decorating by hand.
Leave your apples to cool until the chocolate has hardened (2 hours in the fridge) then serve them on a platter.
